The Tulip Tree

It stood in majestic splendor
its canopy spanning the whole garden
given cool shade
during hot summer days.

The winter winds came
tore loose the large leaves
sending them tumbling
floating into my garden

One more time
I run through the thick carpet
of brown and yellow leaves
laughing
memories of a carefree childhood
my childhood that never was.

The tulip tree now stands
its branches bare
shivering in the cold winter air.

In the warmth of my house
I paint the leaves
so carefully pressed
under the carpet
shimmering golden hues
each one a celebration of Hope.

Hope
that Light will return
to the World
shivering in the cold winter winds
of discord and strife.

That is my Prayer.
