The Red Dress

She let the silken fabric
glide through her hands
remembering how it clung
to her body
those hot summer days

they danced
oh, how he held her in his arms
whispered into her ear
music in their bodies
music in the air
those hot summer days

now the days are grey
the winds are cold
what remains
are memories of love
dancing
those hot summer days

was this the summer
of her life
now gone forever
was it last summer
that she felt so alive
those hot summer days

in the dark winter nights
she dreams
of summer
trees heavy with fruit
dragonflies
dancing in the air
her body young and lithe
once again
in the hot summer sun.
