Safe Harbor
Below my deck silver fish
swimming for its life,
a cormorant piercing the still water
like an arrow
in pursuit.
The shadow of the pilings
to which my boat is tethered
a dark distraction,
offering welcome safety
Only then did I realize
that I had held my breath
the entire time.
