Christmas
As darkness fell
loneliness came to visit
sadness her companion.
She thought of her son
so far away
feasting with friends.
She thought of her daughter
just over the mountain,
sitting around the family table
with friends,
the warm light of candles,
laughter filling the cozy room.
She smiles at the image
a silver tear
slowly running down her cheek.
Pulling the warm shawl closer
around her shoulders,
she slowly spoons her vegetable soup
"It is so still in the house,
nothing is stirring
not even a mouse"...
Outside a storm rages,
rain lashing the windows,
the trees bending to the wind
Safe in her house,
Safe from the unseen dangers without,
She thinks of those who are homeless
Those who are hungry and cold
Those who are fighting for their lives
Those who are alone, unloved and forgotten...
Her Prayer:
"Kindle the light of love
In every Heart,
and
Deliver us from the darkness
That has befallen this Land. "
May it be so.
